Colombo, Sri Lanka’s largest and busiest city, combines beautiful nature with urban structures, both historic and modern. When visiting the city, be sure not to miss the Fort from the 16th to 18th centuries, which is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. Not far from the Fort, there is the Pettah district with the busiest market in the city. Shopping there is a unique experience.

If temple sightseeing is your thing, be sure to visit the Buddhist temples of Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya (one of the three places in Sri Lanka honoured with a visit by the Buddha), followed by the temples of Gangaramaya and Seema Malaka. You will also find many churches, museums, and mosques in the city, with the most interesting being Davatagaha and Afar Jumma. The Old Galle Buck lighthouse is also a unique building, offering a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean.

After exploring the city, relax in one of the quiet parks or at Lake Beira in the very heart of Colombo, where you can enjoy a boat ride.
