València – a City of Architectural Gems, Relaxation, and Entertainment

Do you want to surround yourself with historical and modern architecture, do some sports, or just laze on the beach or in a park? Then Valencia, Spain, is exactly the place to go.

When walking through the city, be sure to visit the historical centre, where you can see, for example, the Metropolitan Cathedral–Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady from the 13th century. The St. Catherine’s Church with a bell tower from the 17th century is a similar architectural gem. The Gothic building of the Silk Exchange, which is the only Valencian monument included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is also worth a visit.

If you venture outside the centre, visit the complex of modern buildings of the City of Arts and Sciences. You will find there, for example, the L’Hemisfèric IMAX cinema, which has a dome-shaped design and resembles a human eye when reflected in the water. The steel structure of the building even opens and closes like an eyelid. However, there are many more futuristic buildings in the area. So, if you like modern architecture, this part of Valencia is a must-see for you. After a long walk, you can relax in the stunning Turia Park, which the locals built in a dry riverbed. You can also find an oasis of peace and quiet on one of Valencia’s beaches. But if you soon get tired of lazing around, don’t despair. There are many football fields, skate parks, and other sports areas in Valencia where you can push your body to the limit and test your physical capabilities.
