17. 10. 2022Regular autumn maintenance of the main runway will move air traffic to the secondary runway for a short period of time. The main runway will be closed for a maximum of five days between 31 October and 11 November, only during daytime operations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Necessary scheduled works include runway rubber removal, expansion joints repairs, and restoration of horizontal traffic signs. “The exact date will be set based on the current meteorological conditions to ensure the most efficient use of the time of the main runway closure, i.e., no fog, low temperatures, or excessive wind. This is regular maintenance after the summer season, when there was continuous traffic on the main runway. The goal is to get the condition of the surface and the signs in the best possible condition before the winter season,” Miroslav Charvát, Runway Administration and Operational Development Manager, said. During the closure, all air traffic will be redirected to the secondary runway 12/30. Taking into consideration the densely populated areas of Prague and Kladno, which are negatively affected by the secondary runway traffic, maintenance will only be performed during the daytime hours. At night, flights will be redirected to the main runway. The direction of traffic depends on the current meteorological conditions, especially the wind. However, the preferred direction for landing is from the direction of Prague, while take-offs are best towards Kladno. With regard to operational safety, it is necessary to perform regular maintenance of the runway system twice a year, always in spring and autumn. Runway maintenance always lasts only the time necessary to ensure high-quality work and takes place during unrestricted airport regular operations.Inquiries by journalists shall primarily be forwarded to the joint e-mail address of komunikace@prg.aero.Follow us on Prague Airport’s Twitter @PragueAirport.
