Prague Airport has received the prestigious 2024 Special Achievement in GIS Award for its contribution in the field of Geographic Information Systems at an international conference in San Diego, USA. Prague Airport has been using this system called LetGIS, which contains a detailed topography of the entire airport and its surroundings, since 2000.

In 2018, Prague Airport selected a new GIS system provider, the Esri company. Following an extensive analysis of currently available technologies and taking into account the complexity, scope, content, and future sustainable development, Prague Airport decided to switch from this company to the ArcGIS system. The transition took place in several stages, from the preparation of the concept, the implementation and uploading of various agendas, to the launch of the new version of LetGIS in the company's environment. It was for the implementation of the new system in the airport environment, the partner of which was the Unicorn Systems company, that Prague Airport received the award.

LetGIS contains a detailed topography of the entire airport and its surroundings, provides data on buildings, hangars, and take-off areas, manages data on utility networks with a length of over 1,000 kilometres, and enables effective management and analysis of airport infrastructure and operations.

“Spatial data plays a key role in the management of international airport infrastructure and information systems, as it gives a new dimension to large volumes of data. I believe that we are on the right track and that other possibilities and horizons are opening up for us,” Roman Janeček, Manager of Geodesy and Cartography at Prague Airport, said.

Prague Airport provides its infrastructure to over 70 airlines from around the world and other partners. Access to accurate, relevant, and reliable data is therefore essential. LetGIS is one of the key information systems which significantly supports almost all processes at Prague Airport. Moreover, the development of the LetGIS system is crucial for the company with regard to competitiveness, new trends, adaptation to current needs, and, above all, cyber security.
